Know your coffee!

Know your coffee!

Any Taste is perceived through taste buds.  A human tongue recognizes different tastes – Sweet, Salt, Sour & Bitter. In order to taste coffee, one must focus on one taste at a time.  This is especially true for a first time coffee drinker.

Brands we cherish

We have five different variants from Karnataka for you to choose from – Bhoomi, Cloudy Aranya, Hasiru Ayush, Misty Nadi and Shanth Aag. Let us take you through the journey of sourcing these five unique blends.
Made from 100% high-quality Arabica beans, Bhoomi’s unique flavor and aroma comes from the traditional Arabica growing tracts usually found at higher elevations.  Every cup of Bhoomi coffee will remind you of an earthy aroma with handpicked and well processed beans.  It is best enjoyed black or with a splash of milk and a hint of sugar.

A perfect blend of 70% Arabica with medium sun-dried Robusta and 30% Chicory, Cloudy Aranya is a filter coffee with a strong flavor. Best enjoyed on a cold morning where every single sip would give you a feel of honey-like consistency from the Robusta and Chicory and the hint of sweetness from the Arabica.

Our green coffee bean, Hasiru Aayush is handpicked Arabica and comes with a hint of areca nut, cardamom and Indian black pepper grown around the pristine rainforests of the Western Ghats. Our recommendation is to use minimum or no sweeteners, however you may add sugar, jaggery, honey, maple syrup or cardamom as per your taste.

Roasting is key to good coffee

Now, let us talk about how roasting is done for these coffees. Coffee gets a lot of its aroma and flavour from the roasting process. The length of the roasting process can affect the body,  acidity and flavor of the coffee beans.
Lightly roasted beans are generally produced between temperatures of 180oC-205°C, right after the first crack occurs. These beans tend not to have the oils on them because they haven’t been roasted at a high enough temperature.

Medium roasts are made between temperatures of 205°C-245°C. This is after the first crack and just before the second one occurs. They have a little bit more body than a light roast and less acidity.

The roasting temperature for a dark roast ranges between 240°C-250°C. There are visible oils on dark roast beans. The longer roasting process helps it to develop a richer flavor and full body, which often leads to it having a buttery finish. They also have the least acidity of all coffee roasts. Dark roasts have the least amount of caffeine because they’re roasted the longest.

Grinding makes it perfect

Grinding is another important aspect of getting the perfect taste in a coffee. The grind of your coffee beans has the greatest impact on the flavor of your coffee. Without properly ground coffee, you will not get a proper extraction of the flavors within the coffee bean. Each brewing method works well with coffee ground within a certain range. This is because each brewing method exposes the coffee to water at different temperatures for different periods of time.  For a general description you may find in recipes, coffee beans are normally ground into fine, medium and coarse varieties.
